What is Canine Infertility?
Subscribe To Our FeedIf you have never heard about the term canine infertility it probably sounds like something that is not that serious. It has absolutely nothing to do human infertility but humans are not the only species that can be infertile. For people that breed dogs, it can be devastating to find out that the female dog or the male dog that was meant to be the start breeder, and which has probably be purchased for a substantial amount, can not have babies.
What is the Cause of Canine Infertility?
You might have heard the term “timing is everything” and timing is actually on of the biggest reason for canine infertility. The timing of the breeding is crucial to success or failure. This is no different than human breeding and you need your dog to perform the act at the right time for it to become pregnant. If you are unsure when the time is right go talk to your vet or to other people that knows about dog breeding.
The fact is that your animal could be just fine but due to miscalculated time of ovulation, nothing happened. The solution is simple and you will need to have the male and female dog do it all over again on the next cycle. The miscalculation attributes to almost eighty percent of the times the female dogs do not get pregnant. If you have calculated just right, the second largest reason for canine infertility is that the male dog is infertile himself and will therefore not be able to make the female dog pregnant. To be absolutely sure that this is the case you will have to have the male dog tested. Normally this is not done until the breeder have tried to have them conceive several times without any success. Unfortunately for breeders the canine infertility in males is rather common.
The cycles for female dogs are just as important as the cycle of women is. In the case that the female dog doesn’t come into heat as she is supposed to do, she is also experiencing canine infertility. Besides the causes already mentioned there are a few other medical causes that can lead to canine infertility problems. Some of them are structural and some are bacterial in nature. If you are experiencing problems with canine infertility in your dog, the best thing you can do is to go see your veterinarian. He or she will always know what the best possible solution is. The problem can’t always be solved and thereby it is no different than with humans. Unfortunately the option of adopting is not the solution when we’re talking about dogs.
